I have books which I reread because they just are wonderful. This book reinforced my opinion that I thought after Dark Prince that the Prince should have sent out instructions that women with psychic abilities CAN be converted but instead of going "Tarzan" on them they need to totally explain all the consequences and details as to why they are so necessary to the males as mates. They need to know just how much they are needed and why and how, etc. The women "lifemates" may feel the sexual attraction with their other half but have no clue what will happen if they do not go ahead with the conversion and literally commit their lives to their other half. This "taking" and explain after is getting very boring. The books where they do actually court or where the female wants to to get together with her other half because she feels very strongly right from the start just how much he means to her are the best. The truly "female" woman versus the "she-male" versions are so much more interesting. Also the use of the Carpathian language where you have to read adnausiam is very boring and getting more so. If this is a technique to make the stories longer, it is getting too repetitive.Tags : Dark Curse (Dark Series) [Christine Feehan] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Christine Feehan's 16th book in the Carpathian Series introduces Lara Calladine, a ice cave explorer who has come to the Carpathian mountains to discover answers to her frightening past. Nicholas De La Cruz encounters her at the local inn, and knows she is his other half and his future. Their story has many exciting twists and some welcome new developments which will intrigue Carpathian fans, and this novel also marks a definite return to the great storytelling of Christine Feehan. For those who thought the series was getting too far off track or getting boring, this book is classic Carpathian and yet new and fresh. If you have not read Christine Feehan this is a great book to start with, and if you love it, you can go back and read the rest of the series. Also included in this book is more development of the Carpathian language -- of great interest to the author and probably limited reading audience -- there if you do like that sort of thing but does not detract from the story.
Frankly, I loved this book! Her last Dark book, Dark Possession, was rather difficult to follow the first time I read it, easier the second read through. Manolito exists much of that novel in a world between life and death, which is rather confusing to the reader. No such problem exists here! I loved the return to the Inn where Mikail and Raven met, in Feehan's first Dark novel. I loved the way she integrated many of her earlier novels' characters in much of the book. I enjoyed the addition of the dragons (without giving plot away here). I was surprised and delighted at the "twist" to Razvan's character, which I'm sure will be detailed in Dark Slayer this Fall. The only element of the story I disagreed with (and it's minor) was when the women met to chant for Raven and Savannah in the cave. I felt Raven was not depicted as the pschologically strong character we know her to be from all of the previous stories with her; I felt the change was unrealistic, even though she is pregnant. Otherwise, I love the book and look forward to Dark Slayer, which based on Chapter 1, looks to be exciting also.
I liked this book because I am a Christine Feehan's fan. I am glad Nicolas found his lifemate. The book is quite repetitious and I understand to an extent. I suspect if the repetitious parts were removed the book would be considerably smaller. But as I said I am a fan of her Dark books. For someone who is coming to this series new, do not start with this book. You would be completely lost. Start with the Dark Prince. Any other would make mention of multiple other incidents of which you would have no knowledge. You have to like her work because all the men are relatively the same just with different names. I like the men so ... If you want to get lost in fantasy land for a few minutes.. this is a good way to do it. Dark Curse (The 'Dark' Carpathian Book 19)
First and foremost, Lara is a pathetic excuse for someone of the Dragonseeker lineage. She is the second of Feehan's heroines (Alexandria of Dark Gold being the first) who tries to commit suicide (Chapter 7) to escape the big, bad, domineering, Carpathian lifemate, Nicholas De La Cruz. Nicholas still isn't as bad as his brother Rafael (Dark Secret) and you'd think that after knowing Colby (Rafael's lifemate) he'd have gotten a clue already....but noooooo! Not happening in this book. However, unlike Rafael, Nicholas rapidly increase his learning curve.
It is obvious that Dark Curse is foundational in setting up the stories of Razvan (Dark Slayer) and Dominic of the Dragonseekers (Dark Peril). While Dominic implements a plan to infiltrate the Nosferatu, his great-great-great niece Lara (who, if we are to believe the storyline, has great power of the Dragonseekers in her veins) is committing suicide. Lara is also somewhat ignorant of her abilities. So much for the whole "Blood Is Power" mantra of the last few books. It certainly didn't help Lara since she attempts the cowards way of escape. After learning what her father, Razvan, has endured for centuries in his attempt to defeat Xavier, protect the Carpathian people, and Lara herself, staying true to his Dragonseeker lineage, Lara just doesn't seem to be cut from the same cloth as Rhiannon, Razvan, Dominic, Natalya, Tatijana, and Branislava. Lara is not a likeable heroine.
There are several discrepancies in this book concerning Razvan. In Dark Demon, his twin sister Natalya describes him as having tawny hair like hers with midnight blue eyes. In the Prologue of this book, Lara describes his copper hair darkening to brown streaked with gray and then in Chapter 3 Razvan has morphed into having black hair banded with platinum and turquoise eyes. I mean, really?
On the plus side there is more detail to the Ivory/Malinov/Dubrinsky/Razvan history.
As with other Feehan offerings the typos and grammatical errors are prevalent in this book. "Laying in weight" instead of "wait" etc.
